Boat Build and Refit Support in Spain

Keep your brief clear, your decisions documented and your next steps visible. Maritime Expert provides practical owner representation for boat builds, upgrades and refits, with specialist work coordinated around your project.

An organised voice for the owner

A build or refit brings together the owner, yard, designers, engineers and suppliers. Each needs answers, but the owner may be abroad or have limited time to review every detail. Small misunderstandings can become significant changes once work has started.

We help you organise the project from your side. That can mean clarifying the intended result, comparing written proposals, attending agreed meetings and keeping a record of progress, variations and decisions that need your approval.

Our role is defined in writing. Practical coordination and owner reporting sit alongside the yard’s delivery responsibilities and the work of appointed surveyors, engineers, naval architects and legal advisers.

Support before the order is placed

The best time to clarify a specification is before it becomes a contract or purchase order. We can help prepare a functional brief: how the boat will be used, who will operate it, what systems matter and how the finished vessel will be maintained.

  • Organise your requirements into a usable specification and questions list.
  • Coordinate suitable yard or supplier enquiries.
  • Compare proposals against a consistent scope and identify exclusions.
  • Review practical equipment choices, access and maintenance implications.
  • Help assemble the issues for specialist technical and contractual review.
  • Record the agreed deliverables, milestones and handover requirements.

For new boats, this can include production-boat options, owner-supplied equipment and commissioning arrangements. Complex custom construction requires a project team with the appropriate design, engineering and classification expertise.

Refit planning with a realistic scope

Start by separating essential repairs, reliability work and discretionary improvements. If you have recently purchased a boat, an independent survey and machinery inspection can help establish the work required before upgrades are considered.

A refit brief may cover servicing, electrical or navigation upgrades, shade and upholstery, comfort equipment, tender arrangements and practical improvements to how the boat is used. We help compare what each quote includes and what still needs investigation.

Hidden defects and access problems can change a refit. Agree how additional work will be reported, priced and approved, with an explicit contingency rather than an assumption that everything is covered.

Stay informed while work is underway

Reporting should tell you what happened, what evidence supports it and what needs a decision. An agreed assignment can include scheduled yard visits, progress photographs where permitted, action lists and meetings with the responsible suppliers.

We can maintain a record of the baseline scope, approved variations, outstanding quotations, budget movements and open questions. You remain in control of approvals and payments unless a specific written authority is agreed.

Visit frequency is matched to project complexity and your budget. Occasional owner visits are not continuous quality supervision, and a progress report is not a technical acceptance certificate.

Completion means more than collecting the keys

Before handover, assemble the agreed test results, manuals, warranties, equipment inventory and outstanding defects list. Coordinate commissioning and sea-trial attendance with the responsible specialists and define who has authority to accept the work.

We help track unresolved items and the next steps for warranty follow-up. Where appropriate, a separate instruction can cover delivery and owner familiarisation, so you understand the systems and handling of the finished boat.

Build and refit enquiries across Spain

We welcome instructions involving yards and suppliers across the Spanish mainland, Balearics and Canary Islands. Costa Blanca and Valencia projects can be considered alongside Barcelona, Palma, the Costa del Sol, Cádiz and northern Spanish locations.

We assess each project before quoting: vessel size, technical complexity, location, expected duration, attendance needs and the specialist team already appointed. We do not imply a partnership with any yard or offer blanket approval of its work.

Build and refit questions

Can you act for me while I am outside Spain?

Yes. Reporting and coordination can be arranged around an agreed instruction. Site attendance is quoted separately where required.

Do you undertake the engineering work?

The appointed yard and specialist contractors carry out the work. We support the owner’s brief, communication and agreed coordination tasks.

Can you guarantee the final budget or delivery date?

No. We help monitor quotations, changes and commitments, but the responsible supplier must confirm its own delivery obligations.

Can you take over a project that is already underway?

We can assess it. Send the current scope, contracts or quotations, location, progress and unresolved issues so an initial review can be proposed.

Tell us what you want to achieve

Tell us what you want to buy or improve, where in Spain it will be used, your overall budget and your preferred timing. Send advert links or a project outline if you have them.

We will explain the next useful step and propose a scope of work. Fees, travel and third-party costs are agreed before paid work begins.
