New Boat Handover & Training

Bought a Boat? Start Properly.

A structured handover and training session that helps you understand a newly purchased boat before guesswork becomes your operating procedure.

01

Understand the boat before you rely on it

Used boats rarely arrive with a friendly engineer following behind explaining every switch, system and little quirk. We work through the vessel systematically, helping you understand the controls, electrics, engine systems, safety equipment, electronics and the practical routines that matter in day-to-day use. Steve brings more than four decades of marine experience to that process, with a background spanning marine engineering, surveying, boat trading, vessel delivery and practical instruction. Once you are comfortable with how everything works, we take the boat onto the water and turn that information into practical familiarity.

  • Engines, fuel systems and basic daily checks
  • Batteries, charging and electrical systems
  • Shore power, isolators and power management
  • Seacocks, bilge systems and safety equipment
  • Helm controls, gauges and warning systems
  • Chartplotter, depth sounder and VHF familiarisation
  • Steering systems and thruster operation
  • Anchoring equipment and mooring setup
  • Ropes, fenders and deck equipment
  • Pre-departure and shutdown routines

02

Then learn to handle it

Once the systems make sense, we focus on real-world handling: getting away, manoeuvring at slow speed, using wind intelligently and returning to the berth without providing free entertainment for the marina. We can spend time on the situations that matter most to you, whether that is tight marina work, coming alongside, reversing, using thrusters effectively or handling the boat with a short-handed crew. The aim is to help you understand how the boat responds and give you simple techniques you can repeat confidently. By the end of the session, the boat should feel far less unfamiliar and everyday manoeuvres much more predictable.

  • Close-quarters handling
  • Berthing and coming alongside
  • Reverse and turning techniques
  • Using wind and current
  • Thruster use where fitted
  • Crew positioning and communication
  • Home-berth routines
  • Questions specific to your new boat

QUESTIONS

Useful Answers

Is this a marine survey?

No. It is a practical familiarisation and training service, not a condition survey, valuation or mechanical warranty.

Can this be combined with delivery?

Yes. Delivery + Training is specifically designed for people buying a boat away from its eventual home base.
